Biography
Alcide DeGagné is a graduate of the Fine Arts program of the Ottawa School of Art. An experimental artist, Alcide combines photography, painting, and print making into integrated art works that blend the representational with the abstract. Many of the works have ironic references and often include written text. His most recent work, the “Walking Man Series”, expresses the pleasures of walking over long distances along the ancient trail of “Le Chemin de St. Jacques de Compostelle”.
The body-mind experience of prolonged, self-directed walks is a recurring theme in much of his recent art. The “Walking Man” image is a stylize self-image incorporated into many of the art works that conceptualizes the experience of the voyeur or the artist as "flanneur” similar to that found in many 19th-century impressionist works.
